Installation of a floor convector is considered a fairly simple process that can be done both with the help of a professional or independently. Before starting the installation of the convector built into the floor, you must carefully study the instructions for installation and use of the heater and carefully follow all the prescribed recommendations. Not only your safety, the appearance of the room, but also the service life of the convector depends on the correct installation. Depending on the room and the size of the window space, the optimal location of the convector is chosen: on the floor, on the wall, inside the floor, inside the wall, in the steps, in the window space (under the window sill). The first task is to choose the right place: comfortable, safe and allowing you to use the convector's capabilities to the maximum. It must be remembered that convectors cannot be installed under ventilation openings, behind curtains, blinds, doors, screens.

Convector connection

Hydraulic connection

There are two options connections to the heating system: it is flexible and tough. Each type has its own advantages.

Flexible connection - the connection makes it possible to perform a side connection, simplifies cleaning the convector itself. The bottom line is that the connection is based on flexible hoses. In convectors where it is possible to lift the heat exchanger, it is very convenient for cleaning the convector from dust and dirt.

Hard connection - considered more reliable due to the materials used when connecting. But in this case, it is harder to make the floor convector uyuorka, since there is no way to raise the heat exchanger.

Electrical connection

You have chosen a convector with a fan, then you need to take into account such a moment as connecting to the electrical network. Since the fans used in convectors are usually 12 V, and in the network 220, it is necessary to purchase a convector module (transformer). The module controls the room thermostat and vice versa. The room thermostat measures the room temperature using a built-in sensor and maintains it at the set value. In parallel with this, it can control servo drives and smoothly adjust the fan speed. Some manufacturers provide the ability to lay the transformer in a box with a convector, which simplifies the work during its installation.

How to choose the right equipment?

In order not to make a mistake in choosing and buy the best floor-type heating water convector, many criteria are considered. First you need to allocate space for the heater and measure it. Having written down the linear dimensions, you can go to buy the device.

The main signs of quality

The first thing that is recommended to evaluate is the appearance of the product.It is important to pay attention to whether the declared characteristics meet the required parameters.

You should also check whether the device meets the basic quality criteria:

  • the heat exchanger is made of durable metal that keeps its shape well;
  • the main material of the product is stainless steel, which does not undergo deformation and corrosion;
  • the body of the device is as rigid as possible, covered with a dense layer of shock-resistant enamel, on which there are no bubbles or rough areas;
  • all edges of the equipment are straight and undamaged.

And also it is worth considering that a manufacturer's warranty is provided for quality products. It is desirable that its term is at least 5 years.

Mandatory selection criteria

After the external assessment, the analysis of the mandatory criteria should begin. To select the most efficient floor convector, take into account the individual characteristics of the room.

To begin with, the following nuances must be determined:

  • autonomous or central heating system in the room;
  • the desired temperature regime to be maintained;
  • the presence of equipment in the room, and the amount of heat generated by it.

The operating pressure of the convector depends on the type of heating system in operation. Its range is 2-12 atmospheres. To connect to a centralized system, at least 12 atmospheres of pressure are required.

The power of the device is calculated based on the general temperature regime in the house and the amount of heat that is generated by any household appliances installed in the room.

And also in calculating the optimal power of a water floor convector, the glazing area, the level of heat loss and the thickness of the walls are taken into account. One square meter should have about 100 watts of power. This indicator is averaged and may differ in a particular case.

Installation of convectors around the perimeter of the room
For full heating in large rooms, several floor heaters are installed, placing them around the entire perimeter

The devices operate on an electric motor that needs direct or alternating current. If the humidity level in the room is above average, it is better to choose electric motors that use alternating current.

Read about the features of the selection of electric heating convectors below.

Compared to other devices, they are more water resistant. In other cases, it is more expedient to take a convector with a DC motor - it is twice as economical.

Review of the best equipment manufacturers

It is definitely impossible to buy a floor convector from a dubious company. It is better to opt for products from reliable trusted companies with an optimal ratio in terms of price / quality of goods. The brands Jaga, Minib, Polvax, Kermi are characterized by numerous positive reviews.

Kermi is a German company producing floor convectors with side and bottom connection. The devices operate on different types of convection.

They are equipped with sensitive dynamic regulation, which maintains an average comfortable temperature in the room. Products with a fan are particularly powerful.

Floor convector is a functional heating solution
Kermi convectors can be designed as benches or equipped with an additional shelf on top. Such a move adds functionality to the product and makes it interesting from a design point of view.

Some models have a built-in thermal radiation shield, which minimizes heat loss in rooms with a large glazing area by 80%. The devices have a longitudinal or roll-up decorative grille, they are made in classic and unusual shapes that emphasize the individuality of the interior.

The standard color is satin, but on request, the manufacturer makes equipment in any color from the proposed palette.

Jaga - floor heating devices of the Belgian brand. They are distinguished by decent thermal conductivity and power.The company produces models equipped with a fan unit and standard versions that work on natural convection.

Fan, closer or further from the window?

The position of the fan of the floor radiator in relation to the window opening depends on the intended use of the device... If the convector is installed only like a heat curtain, the fan should be located closer to the room, and direct the flow of warm air to the glazing.

If the main function of the floor convector is room heating, then the fan must be installed closer to the window opening so that it directs cold air from the glazing through the heat exchanger into the room.

We recommend that you always install the fan closer to the glazing... Due to the increased power of these devices in this position, they will cope with both functions: both heating and cutting off cold air.

Basic installation guidelines

The installation process of the floor convector is quite simple. It is described in detail in the manufacturer's instructions. The equipment is installed on the floor by embedding or fastening on special legs-stands supplied in the kit. It is intended for indoor use.

It is recommended to observe the following rules during installation:

  • mount the device in a strictly horizontal position, controlling this with an ordinary building level;
  • carefully fix the equipment;
  • make sure that the heat exchanger is located on the side farthest from the window (unless the main mission of the convector is to create a protective heat shield along the windows);
  • place the device at a distance of 20-25 cm from the floor covering;
  • connect the heat exchanger with distribution pipes supplying the heating agent, flexible stainless steel hoses or metal braided hoses.
  • do not deform the edges of the gutter.

First of all, the floor surface is marked. Then the equipment legs or holders are fixed with special fasteners. After that, the body is installed and the convector is connected to the water supply system.

Be especially careful when mounting threaded connections. It is very important not to damage the threads or damage the tightness of the clutches. It is best to use a torque wrench in your work, which will allow you not to exceed the tightening torque.

When installing the convector, it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and connect the pipeline correctly. Installation errors can lead to insufficient efficiency and frequent damage to the device.

In contrast to appliances with floor and wall mounting type, floor convectors are distinguished by the simplest installation technique. But still, with insufficient skills and little experience in handling heat engineering, it is advisable to entrust the installation to a professional master.

Convector grates

When choosing a grate for a convector, there is a question of wood or aluminum. In fact, it all depends on individual preference. I would like to emphasize that wooden grates are made only from natural wood. To protect the grill made of wood, it is recommended to apply staining or varnishing. Aluminum grilles are considered more wear-resistant, as they additionally undergo an anodizing process. All gratings can withstand a load of 40 kg per bar. The only point is that the wooden grill is more susceptible to external wear, that is, rubbing from walking on it will be more visible.

Decorative frame

Many manufacturers offer convector framing, this is necessary first of all in order to close the joints, often the tilers do not quite ideally bring the tile to the convector and there are gaps and cracks, and in such cases the frame is installed. It is of two types: U-shaped and F-shaped. The U-shape is less visible as it does not fit on the floor. The F-shaped one lies on top and is 1-2 mm wide, thereby completely hiding the joint between the convector and the floor, but in this case the grille is slightly higher than the floor, that is, a slight rise is formed. If without a frame, then the floor, convector and grate are on the same level.
